LATEST SAMPLES & THE 2025 CHALLENGE!

BIG NEWS!! I just learned that I am getting a "Sand Lot" collection (#12) from ISCS! This will give me a great oppertunity to photograph new samples. Second, the webpage will be used by Mississippi State University in their "Geology of North America" graduate course. This will give me more samples to photograph and lessons to share! My goal this year is to keep on doing this. The old site is still very much there. Please visit it, but also help me add to the new. If you have sand to contribute, please consider sharing it with me. If you want it returned - no problem! Clear Skies!

THE STORY SO FAR - Week of March 3, 2025- Great sample from the Big Island at Kailua, Kona last week. Here's to a great sand posting year!

My attempt at capturing c/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan/ATLAS. The comet was almost impossible to see from my location, my backyard, because of light pollution. This was my sharpest image.

Need a poster child for sedimentary rock features? This is the one!

It's another creepy face!

I assume the rocks above left and above formed the same way. The lava cooled forming Basalt, then, sometime later, a crack opened and quartz came into it. There the story changes. In the sample avove, I assume chunks of the basalt fell into the quartz solution. I could be wrong.
