I collected this sample of Calymene on our last trip to Indiana. Ed and I went to our favorite spot in Madison, and abandoned railroad road cut. Since our last visit they had installed a barbed wire fence, but that was broken so we had easy access. It was a beautiful day. We collected numerous brachiopods and crinoid stems from the site. On our way out I noticed a brown curved line in the soft grey shale near the fence. I hoped it was the cephalon of a trilobite! Over the next days, as we traveled down into Kentucky, I scraped away at the rock with a nail. This magnificent specimen emerged! Over the next weeks I picked away at it at home and cleaned it to its present state. It's my favorite sample.
