We bought this ant in amber a long time ago from Ward's Scientific. I think it comes from the Dominican Republic. The age is probably Oligocene/Miocene. Insects trapped in amber is an example of actual preservation where the critter is unaltered. This method gives you the most accurate set of characteristics of what the specimen looked like because nothing has been replaced.
