BETWEEN THE PAWS 1X THUMBNAIL SAMPLE NEAR THE SPHINX 1X THUMBNAIL SAMPLE
Sample #2 was contributed by Skye F., a student at the Gates Intermediate School, Scituate, Massachusetts
Samples #3 and #4 were contributed by Emily D., a student at the Gates Intermediate School, Scituate, Massachusetts. Sample 3 was collected very near the Great Sphinx, and Sample 4 was collected from between the paws of the Great Sphinx. The two samples were separated by a distance of about 30 feet. I've included high resolution !X thumbnails of the two samples above. Click on them to make a comparison. Also, be sure to check out the two reflectance spectra of the two samples.
"The darker, coarser one is from about 30 feet away from the left paw of the Great Sphinx...but the finer sample is taken from the space between the forearms. I’m enclosing a couple of photos to give you an idea. The first one is taken inside the forearms, that tablet is up against the chest of the Sphinx. I took the sand right about here in the foreground of the photo. The other picture is taken right at the edge of a wooden walkway built going down from the road, and it is right here at the end of that walkway where I stopped and grabbed a little bit of the sand. Just about a yard or so closer than where the lady with the jeans and white shirt is." - C. Callan quote and photographs.
