Colorado River at the Interstae I-10 Boundary in California

COLORADO RIVER NEAR INTERSTATE I-10 AT THE CALIFORNIA BORDER

"THE SAMPLE WAS COLLECTED FROM THE CALIFORNIA SIDE OF THE COLORADO RIVER AT THE RIVER'S JUNCTION WITH INTERSTATE 10. I THOUGHT OF ASKING SOME OF THE KIDS WHO WERE PLAYING IN THE WATER TO TRY TO GET ME A SAMPLE FROM A SANDBAR IN THE RIVER., BUT I COULD SEE IT AS TOO DANGEROUS, THE CURRENT WAS TOO SWIFT. I ABANDONED THE REQUEST." - Gary Foster

I WAS TORN AS TO HOW TO DISPLAY THE SAMPLE. IT WAS MOSTLY A VERY FINE-GRAINED SAND, BUT THERE WERE GREAT ROCKS INCLUDED IN THE SAMPLE. I DECIDED TO GO WITH BOTH. - Charles F. Lindgren

Roundness is the degree of smoothing due to abrasion of sedimentary particles. It is expressed as the ratio of the average radius of curvature of the edges or corners to the radius of curvature of the maximum inscribed sphere.

The sphericity of a particle is: the ratio of the surface area of a sphere (with the same volume as the given particle) to the surface area of the particle.
