PAYSON COLLECTION SITE - Gary Foster Photograph

The samples were collected from the same site (see above) on the side of Highway 87 at Ridge Lane on the south side of Payson. I found these interesting because within a short distance of about 200-300 feet,the sample color seemed to change dramatically. However, now in the Ziploc bags, the color difference, though noticeable, is not as pronounced as it semed to be in the field. The granulation is interesting. - Gary Foster

Roundness is the degree of smoothing due to abrasion of sedimentary particles. It is expressed as the ratio of the average radius of curvature of the edges or corners to the radius of curvature of the maximum inscribed sphere.

The sphericity of a particle is: the ratio of the surface area of a sphere (with the same volume as the given particle) to the surface area of the particle.
