The shells shown below were collected from around the chunk of coral shown to the right. It's amazing how many tiny shells can be found on 7 Mile Beach! Click on the image for high resolution version. Charles F. Lindgren Photograph |

CORAL |
WALL |
A few steps from our hotel was a low wall surrounding a strip mall parking lot that was entirely made from pieces of coral. We spent a quiet hour photographing as many different samples as possible. A sampling is shown below. Click on the images for high rsolution versions. - Frances C. and Charles F. Lindgren Photographs |

CRYSTAL |
CAVES |
Crystal Caves is a relatively new attraction on Grand Cayman. It is well worth the trip and time away from the beach and fish! It is intimate compared to Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, or Mammoth Caves in Kentucky. At the present time there are three caves open to the public. Our group had only 18 members and a guide. Photography is difficult, because you can't use a flash meaning a high ISO value, or a tripod. I can't see a tripod in those rooms unless you get a private photographic tour. Small "Room" filled with stalactites, and stalagmites. Note the moisture on the stalagmites. |
Active stalactites. The vertical lines are drops of water falling to the cave floor! |

Great Image! |
The guide suspected that the broken stalactive was caused by an earthquake. |

The Lake Room |

Whenever sunlight reached the interior of the cave, the stalactites were covered with green. I assume it's an algae. |
Detail inside a broken stalactite shows the growth pattern. |
