"[The first sample is] windblown sand at the Al Ghazal Golf Club in Abu Dhabi.

It's a sand golf course (absolutely no grass). Everything, including the greens, is sand. The wind sweeps across the fairways and the fine sand particles accumulate in tire tracks and ditches, and small ravines. Very fine.

[The second sample is] sand that is placed beneath sidewalks for ballast or sub-base material. Sidewalks here are mostly paving bricks. I am sure this sand is processed and mixed. The workers usually lay it in about 4 inch thicknesses, and compact it. Downtown Abu Dhabi (Mina Road), but the source of the sand is unknown, maybe near to Mussafah.

Roundness is the degree of smoothing due to abrasion of sedimentary particles. It is expressed as the ratio of the average radius of curvature of the edges or corners to the radius of curvature of the maximum inscribed sphere.

The sphericity of a particle is: the ratio of the surface area of a sphere (with the same volume as the given particle) to the surface area of the particle.
