"The sand from the east shore of Kauai is probably more typical of what we would expect on Kauaian beaches, with plentiful broken shell material mixed by the high-energy waves. I see a few shell fragments here, but it will be interesting to see the pictures with them magnified. I should note that the winter-spring time in which I took . . . these samples involves some pretty vigorous wave action compared to other times of the year; this may have removed smaller fractions of sand that might be present in the calmer summer months" S.
