We were strolling along the beach at Torrey Pines, San Diego and my wife spotted this almost perfect fossil clam shell laying at the base of the cliff. I've tried to identify the shell, but could find no accurate reference. Most of the fossils in the Bay Point Formation are a dull grey or white. This shell has spectacular coloration. It could be modern, but based upon where it was found, I'm calling it ancient.
